Alternative Education Tutor

Trainme, (a division of Activate Training Centre Ltd) is seeking applications for an Alternative Education Tutor based at our Hamilton campus.

Do you enjoy equipping and challenging youth with key foundational skills and understand how to embed numeracy and literacy?

We are seeking the services of a full-time tutor to assist in and teach to a curriculum, and provide pastoral care to students who are challenged by mainstream education.

The aim of the programme is to enable the students to move into further training, or return to 'Mainstream Education'.

We are looking for:

  • a passionate and committed tutor
  • a proven track record and a passion to deliver formal training programmes to youth
  • have a teaching qualification or hold:
    • Unit Standard 4098 (Assessor Training)
    • The National Certificate in Adult Literacy & Numeracy Education (NCALNE)
  • Be able to maintain high personal and classroom presentation and conduct appropriate to your working context
  • Be able to assist in course preparation, planning, implementation, assessment and moderation within a team environment.

The successful applicant must have a clean NZ Full Drivers licence.

English as a Second Language (ESOL) Tutor

Hamilton Based

Part –Time 18 hours per week (Monday – Thursday)

Trainme, a division of ATC New Zealand is seeking a tutor for its ESOL programme. The successful applicant must be passionate about working with adult refugees and migrants new to New Zealand, who may have also had high literacy and numeracy needs in their home country.

We are seeking a person with a high level of ESOL experience in tutoring adults at pre-beginners / beginner’s level. You will require patience and empathy working with people who may also have trauma related issues.     

As the successful applicant, you will possess:

  • Experience teaching ESOL or literacy and numeracy at pre-beginner level
  • A compassionate understanding of refugee issues and challenges
  • An ability to work with ethnic diversity
  • A specific qualification relating to teaching adults literacy & numeracy
