Student loans and allowances

A student loan helps you pay your course fees, study materials, and living costs, but you will have to pay it back. You may not need a student loan for course fees if you apply for fees-free study. However, you will need to apply for a student loan if you want living costs or course-related costs.

A student allowance can help you with your living expenses while you are studying. It is similar to the student loan living cost, but you do not have to pay it back.

If you want to apply for a student loan and allowance, you will need to contact StudyLink separately when you enrol with us. We cannot apply on your behalf. For more information, please visit StudyLink website.

Can I Get a Student Loan?

Vision College is a registered PTE (Private Training Establishment) and all our qualifications are eligible for student allowances and interest-free student loans, subject to StudyLink’s criteria.

"Flexi-Study" students who are not committing to complete a full qualification are not eligible for student loans, but instead need to pay Vision College directly.

Short courses (such as workshops) are not eligible for student loans.  If you are doing a paper for “audit” (that is, doing the paper for interest only instead of for academic credit), you are not eligible for a student loan.

Important to Remember: “Activate Training Centre”

When applying to StudyLink for a student loan or allowance it is important to remember that Vision College is part of Activate Training Centre Limited. So when filling in the forms and selecting the provider you are studying with, you will need to choose “ATC Auckland, ATC Hamilton or ATC Christchurch”.

How Much Will I Receive on the Student Allowance?

The amount you receive will vary depending on your circumstances, which may include your age, your parents’ income, whether or not you’re living at home, etc. Visit the StudyLink website to learn if you are eligible and how much you’re likely to receive.

What is the Process of Applying for a Student Loan or Allowance?

The first step is to make sure you have sent your application to Vision. Once this is done, even before you hear back from us, you can apply to StudyLink for a student loan (if you plan to pay your fees or course related costs by loan) and student allowance.

StudyLink will contact us to check you are enrolled and once your course starts, StudyLink pay the tuition fees directly to us.

If you don’t want to pay for your fees by an interest-free student loan you will need to pay the course fees for the year in full before the course starts.

StudyLink have some good diagrams that outline the process for applying for student loans and allowances.
