WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

Pre-Beginner / Beginner Level Class

Learners focus on developing basic English skills in each of the four areas (listening, speaking, reading and writing) for everyday life in New Zealand. This beginner English class includes going to the doctors, house inspections, basic te reo, talking to teachers, shopping and understanding Kiwi culture.

Many students have limited or no formal education and may not be literate in their first language. These students receive additional support with a focus on phonics, decoding and pre-writing skills. Developing their learning to learn skills is a crucial part of this English course. Building conversation skills is also an important part of this program and includes regular conversation classes with volunteer native speakers. This English class has a tutor and tutor aide for extra support.

Post Beginner / Elementary Level Class

This English class aims to help students continue to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing while broadening the focus on New Zealand life and culture. Learning contexts include the NZ health system, banking, insurance, shopping, history, politics, education, geography, and entry-level workplace English. Developing listening skills and learning outside of the classroom is an important part of the programme.
