This is the Ultimate alternative to school!  Our FREE 19-week course offers the opportunity for you to earn credits towards NCEA Level 1, gain your learner drivers licence and do a range of practical tasters of other courses like barista training, early childhood, driving quad bikes and tractors etc. to give you a wider skill set and make it a more fun and engaging way to learn.


Taught in a fun environment, students will experience a range of career tasters including coffee making barista skills, safe use of quad bikes, security forces training and much more. Most graduates go on to higher study in welding, security, agriculture or others where they can gain their NCEA Levels 2 and 3.


Ultimate Gives You the Opportunity To Gain:

Course Structure

Ultimate is a FREE 19-week course, taught in a fun and supportive environment, helping you to gain your NCEA level 1.  Throughout the course, you will get an introduction to a range of careers and skills to help gain employment. There will be a mixture of book work and practical work.



Course Content

Topics covered include:

  • Time management
  • Health and safety at work
  • Improved study skills
  • Work in the community
  • Interpersonal communications
  • Teamwork and service sector skills including food safety and cash handling
  • Literacy and numeracy skills are embedded in the programme



Entry Requirements

Age 16 to 19, with some places in Hamilton for those aged 20 or older

No NCEA levels or other qualifications.




Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • Understand self-management strategies to organise their personal life
  • Maintain well-being and continue learning
  • Interact positively with people from their own and other cultures
  • Work in groups
  • Reflect on progress towards achieving personal and career goals
  • Organise, interpret, and communicate information using basic literacy and numeracy skills in relevant contexts.
